Use it before sharing an agreement with someone who needs to see the terms but not the personal details — an adviser, a translator, or a forum where you are asking for help.
How it works
- Add the contract PDF you want to redact.
- Draw black boxes over every detail that must not be shared — names, ID numbers, addresses, account numbers, amounts.
- The tool flattens each redacted page into an image, permanently removing the text beneath the boxes.
- Download the redacted copy and double-check every page before sharing it. Keep your unredacted original safe.
Your privacy
Redaction runs entirely in your browser — the original and redacted files never leave your device.
Because redacted pages are flattened to images, the covered text does not survive in the output file in any recoverable form.
Your documents are never used to train AI models.
Common use cases
- Hide ID numbers and addresses before asking someone to review your loan agreement.
- Black out account numbers on receipts you attach as payment evidence.
- Share a contract's terms publicly for advice while keeping both parties anonymous.
- Remove a third party's details from a document before passing it on.
Limitations
- Redacted pages become images, so their text is no longer selectable or searchable in the output file.
- Flattening can increase file size on text-heavy pages.
- Redaction is only as complete as your boxes — review every page, including headers, footers, and margins, before sharing.
- Password-protected files must be unlocked first.
Frequently asked questions
Is the text under the black box really gone?
Yes, in the file this tool produces. Redacted pages are re-rendered as flat images, so there is no hidden text layer to copy or extract. This is exactly the weakness of drawing rectangles in a normal PDF editor, where the text often survives underneath.
How is this different from just covering text with a shape?
A shape sits on top of the text; the text still exists in the file and can be selected, copied, or exposed by removing the shape. Flattening to an image removes the text itself from the output.
Can I undo a redaction?
Not in the redacted file — that is the point. Keep your original unredacted document; if you redacted too much, start again from the original.
Will the redacted file still be searchable?
Pages you redacted become images, so text on those pages is no longer searchable or selectable. Pages without redactions are left as they were.
What should I redact before sharing a loan agreement for advice?
Typically full names (or at least surnames), ID and passport numbers, home addresses, phone numbers, bank account details, and signatures. The amounts and terms can usually stay, since those are what you want advice about.
Does redacting protect the original file?
No — it produces a safe copy to share. Your original still contains everything, so store it carefully and consider password-protecting it.
